Rev Up Your Sex Life With The O-Shot
Nearly one-third of perimenopausal and menopausal women report sexual health concerns due to factors such as vaginal dryness, low libido, and decreased ability to orgasm.
If you’re experiencing these issues yourself, you may have reduced the frequency of sex or stopped having sex altogether. But neglecting your sexual well-being can affect your relationships and quality of life.
Women’s health specialist Kirstie Cunningham, MD, FACOG, NCMP, who treats patients at Metro Health and Wellness in Marietta, Georgia, and the Menopause Health Institute in Nashville, Tennessee, understands how important a healthy sex life is for overall well-being. That’s why she’s pleased to offer the O-Shot® to women who qualify.
The O-Shot explained
The Orchid Shot, or O-Shot, is a minimally invasive, nonsurgical treatment used to enhance women’s sexual health and confidence. It uses a form of regenerative medicine called platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to stimulate collagen production, enhance nerve sensitivity, and improve blood flow.
Together, these effects can benefit women experiencing menopause-related vaginal changes, including:
- Decreased libido (low sex drive)
- Vaginal dryness
- Difficulty achieving orgasm
- Lichen sclerosus and lichen planus (inflammatory skin conditions that often affect the genitals)
- Pain during sex (dyspareunia)
Sometimes, we use the O-Shot to treat stress urinary incontinence.
The O-Shot: What to expect during treatment
The O-Shot is an outpatient procedure that typically takes 60-90 minutes.
Before recommending the O-Shot, we review your health history, ask about your symptoms, and complete a physical exam. If you’re going through menopause or perimenopause and experience symptoms that interfere with or prevent you from having sex, you may be a good candidate.
First, we draw a sample of your blood and place it in a centrifuge that spins rapidly, isolating platelets and other growth factors into a special platelet-rich plasma (PRP) solution. Once that process is complete, we transfer the platelet-rich solution to a syringe and carefully inject the PRP into specific areas of your vaginal tissue.
After the solution enters your body, it may increase circulation to your genitals, enhance nerve sensitivity, and encourage collagen production, a protein that supports vaginal lubrication.
Following treatment, there’s little to no downtime. You can return to work and other daily activities right away.
How the O-Shot improves sexual wellness
After a single O-Shot treatment, some women report improvements in their symptoms, while others need additional sessions to achieve more noticeable results. Regardless, many women experience a range of benefits, including:
- Increased sexual arousal and sensitivity
- Stronger orgasms that are easier to achieve
- Improved lubrication and reduced vaginal dryness
- Greater sexual confidence
- Enhanced sexual well-being
It’s important to know that results vary from person to person, and may take weeks or even months to appear. Be patient, follow our instructions, and allow time for your vaginal tissue to regenerate.
